  • Troops to Teachers: Ohio has much to offer veterans who want to enter subsequent careers that engage and inspire young minds. Through its Alternative Educator Licensure Program, the Buckeye State offers anyone who holds a bachelor's degree the chance to earn a teaching credential.

  • Ohio Military Veterans Educator Program: Announced Veterans Day 2022, the Ohio Military Veteran Educators Program (OhioMVEP) assists transitioning active-duty service members, currently serving reserve component service members and military veterans start a career in education outside the classroom in a classified support role. The program can also assist spouses of transitioning active-duty service members, currently serving reserve component service members and military veterans along their journey to work at an Ohio PreK-12 school or district, inside and outside the classroom.  

  • EmpowerVetEd: Supporting Military in Educator Prep Programs Grant: The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) is partnering with the Department of Veterans Services to issue this competitive Request for Applications (RFA). This grant opportunity is for institutions of higher education to provide financial incentives and assistance to eligible military individuals, as defined in section 3319.285 of the Revised Code, to enroll in and complete an educator preparation program approved under section 3333.048 of the Revised Code.

  • Ohio Military Veteran Educators Program Recruiting Initiative: EmpowerVetEd: Supporting Military in Educator Prep Programs Grant: The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) is partnering with the Ohio Department of Veterans Services to introduce the Military Recruit award, which supports public school districts, community schools, independent STEM schools, and joint vocational school districts in their efforts to recruit eligible military individuals, as defined in section 3319.285 of the Revised Code, for employment in public schools. This program acknowledges the valuable skills and experiences military personnel bring to the field of education and provides financial incentives to attract and retain these individuals to work in public school.
