Are you interested in understanding what drives the turnover of teachers and educational aides in your district or school? Do you want to improve your district or school so you can keep good educators?
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, alongside REL Midwest and a team of Ohio stakeholders, developed an educator exit survey for schools and districts. The Educator Exit Survey includes items aligned to four domains:
Educator background
Plans for the future
Reasons for leaving current position
Working conditions of the school
The accompanying guidance document can be used to assist schools and districts with administering the survey and analyzing the results.

Tracking Turnover Trends
Tracking turnover and retention can support districts and schools in identifying trends and be strategic in approaches for managing retention and turnover. Understanding who is staying and leaving districts and schools can help determine the reasons staff stay and leave. This will support districts in designing policy to mitigate harmful staff turnover and improve retention. A systematic approach to addressing turnover and retention involves monitoring, diagnosing, and addressing turnover and retention concerns.
This tool can be downloaded and used by districts to monitor teacher turnover and retention in different ways.
The spreadsheet contains four tabs, each with a different way of thinking about district and school turnover and retention.
Each tab contains sample data entries in the rows shaded grey.
Districts can use each tab to track data at the district level or copy the tabs and customize them for individual schools.
